With Lois Renner, the Salzburg Museum is presenting an outstanding representative of Austrian contemporary art. The exhibition is held at two venues: both the Kunsthalle and the ceremonial state rooms of the Neue Residenz show selected works of the Salzburg-born artist.
The project as a whole focuses on current, large-format pictures supplemented by works produced since the early 1990s. Their common hallmark is the inspired fusion of painting and photography. At the same time, Renner’s works also revolve around his own studio. The artist reconstructs his workrooms in Vienna and Salzburg as models and elaborates within them numerous spheres of reference from painting, art history and personal associations.
With his pictures, Lois Renner opens the door to visual experiences. They are about illusion and reality, and about journeys of discovery to the history and future of painting.
Lois Renner (b. 1961) studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art with Gerhard Richter. From 2002 to 2005, he was appointed professor of artistic photography at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. Lois Renner lives and works in Vienna and Salzburg.
