First launched in 1997 with a high wire walk across the Thames, the Mayor’s Thames Festival has grown to become London’s biggest free outdoor arts festival. Over half a million people are expected to attend the festival, that this year takes place on 10 & 11 September 2011, to enjoy free entertainment in a lively, festival atmosphere.
The Festival transforms outdoor spaces on and around the river Thames with a mixture of music, circus performances, live music, streets art, river races, art installations, food and feasting. Londoners of all ages will enjoy festival atmosphere, with everything from a night carnival on the river and fireworks to a feast on Southwark Bridge on offer.
A grand finale to the end of the Thames Festival, fireworks will light up the sky above the Thames with beautiful lights to symbolise the end of the festivities.
Taking place between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge, the festival is at the heart of London, open to all at the end of the summer.
