The Royal Academy is delighted to present an intimate display of recent work by Senior Academician Fred Cuming as part of the ‘Academicians in Focus’ series.
Senior Academician Fred Cuming RA’s work is characterised by his exploration of dramatic light and shadow within the natural landscape. Much of his work celebrates southern English coastlines; the sea and skies of Hastings, or Rye illuminated by dawn, dusk or glowing moonlight. However, Cuming also paints with an imaginative breadth that has taken his practice further afield, to the natural and urban landscapes of Italy and beyond. Reflecting upon the presence of man and society within nature, Cuming continues to work with passion and energy into his 80s. For this exhibition, he has produced a number of new paintings that are being shown for the first time.
Elected Royal Academician in 1974, Cuming is also an associate of the Royal College of Art and a member of the New English Art Club. He lives and work in Rye, East Sussex.
