Proto Gallery is pleased to announce False Indigo, its first solo exhibition of new work by artist Rob Ventura, opening June 3rd with a reception from 6 PM to 9 PM at 66 Willow Ave., Hoboken, NJ. The exhibition will coincide with Soft Reboot, a large scale group exhibition curated by the artist in the gallery’s auxiliary space.
False Indigo presents a selection of recent paintings depicting abstracted representations of poisonous flowers. Symbolically charged, these floral arrangements evoke non-binary interpretations of pleasure and pain; seduction and destruction; organic matter and artificial concoction; love and narcissistic preoccupation; and, the elation of beauty and existential nihilism.
The show’s title is derived from the Baptisia australis plant, a North American flower commonly referred to as false indigo, alluding to the artist’s use of transparent paint applications to create deceptive color composites within a chromatic spectrum.
Rob Ventura was born and raised in Berkeley Heights, NJ, and currently lives and works in Hoboken, NJ.
