With centuries of history behind it and growing interest from critics and art lovers, wooden sculpture is an independent and original form of contemporary art.
Particularly distinguished among its practitioners are the artists in Val Gardena, in the heart of the Dolomites. They represent a school unrivalled in Europe for the number and quality of its artist-sculptors. Their genius and capacity for innovation has brought unexpected development to a rich, longstanding tradition, introducing contemporary idioms of artistic expression as they set out on new paths of aesthetic and formal exploration.
An itinerary of works relating to the theme of the human body, the exhibition titled Legno | Lën | Holz includes a selection of over forty works by Livio Conta, Giorgio Conta, Fabiano de Martin Topranin, Aron Demetz, Gehard Demetz, Peter Demetz, Arnold Holzknecht, Walter Moroder, Herman Josef Runggaldier, Andreas Senoner, Peter Senoner, Matthias Sieff, Adolf Vallazza, Willy Verginer and Bruno Walpoth.
