Glasgow’s world famous travel and transport collection will provide a stunning backdrop for aerial acts, sword swallowers, fire spinners and contortionists as Riverside Museum and Aerial Edge prepare to host a one-off Fire and Feathers Cabaret Showcase on Saturday 15th April.
From award-winning museum by day, the iconic venue will be transformed after dark into a funky entertainment space, complete with live music, street performances and a vintage hair and make-up salon.
Aerial Edge performers Jamie-Lee Naughton and Nicola Lawton delighted visitors to Riverside with a taste of the Fire and Feathers Cabaret Showcase today, Tuesday 14 March.
Nicola Lawton of Aerial Edge said: “Our passion is all things circus, educating and entertaining people. Other than the circus part that means we share a great deal with Riverside, so it’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to showcase our talents in such a stunning space. Given the unusual location and the different acts that will be performing, I’m certain the Fire and Feathers event is going to amaze all those who come along.”
Michelle Woods, Event Manager with Glasgow Museums added: “Riverside has an award winning approach to engaging visitors and new audiences. We are keen to build on a number of high-profile, very success events that have been held at the museum recently, bringing the joys of the museum to people who may never have visited before.
“The Fire and Feathers Showcase brings together incredible circus acts to the beat of live music. Guests are encouraged to dress up and maybe even try something a little different in our vintage hair and make-up salon.”
Aerialists on high swings will show off their skills, alongside contortionists, fire-eaters and sword swallowers, before Radio Pachuco take to the stage with a vintage swing style set, belting out a varied collection of 1950’s music, modern songs in a vintage style and movie themes. The night will be compered By Rufus Tee. He will be joined by special guest musician Markee de Saw, a classically trained mezzo-soprano and an accomplished saw player, who has graced stages on both sides of the Atlantic.
Pin Up’s will add some pizzazz, backcombing and bouffant-ing hair and adding a touch of eyeliner and a splash of bright red lipstick in their pop up hair and make-up salon. Everyone is encouraged to dress up and enjoy the unique occasion.
