Mona Khashoggi’s impressive contemporary Middle Eastern art exhibition will be on view at House of the Nobleman, featuring prominent artists from the last few decades of contemporary Middle Eastern art. This collection has benefitted from an early recognition of this prolific art scene, which has been growing in popularity since the late 1990s, and has since drawn the attention of international museums, galleries and auction houses alike. The sheer number of specialised galleries, foundations and functioning artists’ studios in the region and beyond, in the Middle Eastern diaspora, not to mention its increasing acceptance as a stand-alone subject in the world of academia, reinforces the fact that contemporary Middle Eastern art has become an recognised, permanent feature of the global art scene.
Khashoggi’s collection is defined by a wide range of important works by established artists from all over the Arab world, including Marwan Sahmarani -Abraaj capital Prize, Lalla Essaydi, Shadia Alem-Saudi Bienalle, Jumana Manaa, Youssef Nabil, Nadim Karam, Jeffar Khaldi, Halim al-Karim, Faisal Samra and Ayman Yossri Daydban, among others, and supplemented by seminal works from the younger generation of Arab artists, such as Colour Correction from Yazan Khalili’s iconic Camp Series (2007–10) and Nets from the Barzakh series by Sami Al Turki (2012–13). On top of this comprehensive approach to the Arab World, Khashoggi has also collected works by Iranian masters (Reza Derakhshani, Parviz Tanavoli, Rana Javadi) resulting in a well-rounded collection that should not be missed on this rare opportunity to see these works together in London for the first time.
