When a large Veneto- based fine printing company asked Teikna Design to work on a rebranding and repositioning project, the main focus was to establish what set this printer apart form the multitude - there are approximately 17,000 + printing plants in Italy. The answer was easier than expected: unlike most printers in Italy, and elsewhere for that matter, the owners, 4 brothers all named Antiga, have a real obsession with type.
So much so that years ago they decided to start collecting old letterpress and wood type equipment and created the living museum Tipoteca Italiana, where designers today can experiment with the perfectly maintained old equipment. It was clear that despite their focus on state of the art technology and growing e-publishing department this printing giant was firmly rooted in the history and love of type. So the design started from there: a strong type based identity that uses the historic font Bauer Bodoni and even the colours that have always been associated with this client but in a totally different, design oriented way. Unlike what had happened in the past, the main target is the creative industry, not direct clients.
Grafiche Antiga is already well established thanks to their work for some of Italy's biggest fashion and furniture brands, its ability to produce state of the art products is notorious, thus rebranding the company as design and idea oriented meant that all the usual glitz printers indulge in when promoting themselves was just not necessary.
Love of type, an in depth knowledge of design history and solid (business) figures is what the corporate profile concentrated on. A tabloid-format publication that's easy to fold and can be sent by regular mail, "Antiga book" is a concentrate of images of beautiful projects produced for such a wide array of clients and to-the- point information, highlighting the client’s commitment to sustainability and eco friendly practises. A sense of responsibility that spans from culture to the enviroment , the very best Italy has to offer.
