2016 marks a decade of collaboration for London based images makers Tom Jackson and Craig Evans, collectively known as STATIC. Their solo exhibition, Press Play at London’s Lawrence Alkin Gallery marks the first of ten global exhibitions that the immensely talented pair will open in their tenth anniversary year.
Static’s unique work combines screen-printing with mixed media techniques to produce images that merge elements from street and fine art. The works in Press Play take their inspiration from retro video games, using well known and loved games as a starting point and giving them a Static twist. Each highly individual piece is created using layered glass pieces giving a 3D effect.
The genesis of these works were two large scale murals entitled Game On that Static created at Wood Street Walls, the community art project the duo were instrumental in launching earlier this year. The Walthamstow based scheme connects artists to empty spaces, creating a much needed supply of walls in a city where demand far outstrips supply.
Tom and Craig met at art school and set up studio in a derelict flat overlooking South Bay in their native Scarborough. Ten years on and it really is game on for this pair, with their highly sought after work being collected by celebrities and Saudi royalty among many others.
