At sunset in an old car park space in Hackney stall traders set up trestles, marinade chicken, toss garlic into gumbo and dust sugar over fried doughnuts as Street Feast – London’s permanent night market - has become a mecca for late night food connoisseurs.

Traders vie for a pitch within this coveted space – which attracts and feeds several hundred hungry Londoners every Friday night – and currently the lucky ones include Big Apple Hot Dogs, Yum Jungle (who make damn fine Thai spiced fried chicken) and Bhangra Burger. The Vanduke truck serves up Kanom Jin and The Wild Game Company grills venison. The sweet toothed are not forgotten as Sorbitium Ices and Sweet Tooth Factory offer cake pops and sherbets and the bars serve everything from Camden Town Brewery craft beers to Prosecco and seasonal cocktails.

The air is heavy with chilli, saffron and woodsmoke and foodies hover between stalls; chatting whilst munching from recycled cardboard cartons or brown paper bags. Some browse stalls selling vintage books, handmade crafts or bespoke t-shirts. Others admire the street art which adorns most of the available wall and floor space – and the children of night owls run riot throughout!

And as if the hustle and bustle wasn’t entertaining enough, Street Feast also has live music and film screenings.

Previously existing as a pop up food festival, Street Feast will now be in this new home for the winter. Entry is free and average food prices are £6 per dish.

Dominic Cools-Lartigue, founder of Street Feast, explained “,We’ve felt that the local community has really embraced what we’re trying to do, and moving to (this location) means that we can develop our offering in a stimulating way. The addition of live bands, films, and arts, crafts & fashion stalls will make this quite a unique experience for London.”

The space also offers a hidden private dining area – called The Chamber – which can be hired for parties.
