Stern Pissarro Gallery present Christmas Intimacy, an exhibition based on the wonderful particular intimacies that develop during Christmas, in each individual home.
Christmas reaches beyond family tradition; holiday fairs are a delightful experience for communities, annual office parties bring working relationships closer together. Gifts heaped beneath a colourful Christmas tree, that deep feeling of being surrounded by love and joy. The dreams of a child, nurtured by these powerful memories, will provide the emotional foundation for each future Christmas.
In the gallery, we wanted to reproduce the intimacy of a home filled with seasonal decorations, each wall reflecting a different subject and colour theme. For this reason, we employed a salon-style hanging, chosen by the exhibition curator Lélia Pissarro, whose concept, fusing interior and exhibition design, lends a fresh look to the work, matching colours and subject matter rather than styles.
Christmas Intimacy nonetheless maintains a museum quality aesthetic, with work on display ranging from a vermillion oil painting by Marc Chagall, an acrylic and gouache work by Anish Kapoor, a maquette by Henry Moore and a violet cut paper piece by Paolo Scheggi. We invite you to view an online catalogue of our Christmas Intimacy.
