Gormley's Fine Art, Belfast is proud to present a solo exhibition of new works by Lorcan Vallely which will run from the 29th October to the 19th November. His much anticipated return show to Gormelys will feature a new series of paintings in his distinctive style using charcoal and oil on canvas. He layers charcoal to place emphasis on light and shade and peppers each piece with an occasional use of colour give an added vibrancy.

This new body of work thematically will be in accordance with his earlier pieces. The imagery focuses of everyday life in Ireland and it revisits familiar subjects offering a snapshot into the lives of his subject matters. When speaking of the exhibition Lorcan said "When working on a new body of work having a preconceived theme can sometimes feel like a constraint or burden. I try to think of each piece as an individual project. Despite this, often a thread emerges organically. In this new series of paintings, I have revisited familiar subjects from my earlier work: Old men on the corner out placing their bets, children playing in the street or out with their dogs. The locations and images of everyday life are themes that run throughout the exhibition.”

Lorcan Vallely was born in Armagh in 1979 and completed his foundation course and design in Belfast Art College in 2000, before studying painting at Bath School of Art. After successfully completing his B.A at Bath he gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, London in 2004. Vallely then spent a year drawing and painting full time on Oxford as a member of the artist-run Magdalen Road Studios. In the past eleven years, he has exhibited his work in London, Glasgow, Bath, Oxford, Tuscany Italy and throughout Ireland. In the summer of 2014 Vallely returned to his native Armagh to set up a studio and continue his work as a full-time artist.

The exhibition opens at Gormleys Fine Art on Thursday 29th October from 7-9pm at 471 Lisburn Road, Belfast where guests will be able to view the work and meet the artist. The exhibition continues until 19th November 2015.
