Sims Reed Gallery is delighted to present a retrospective of prints by Fred Sandback (1943 - 2003) which will run from 13 October – 11 November at 30 Bury Street, London SW1Y 6AU.

Sandback was an American minimalist conceptualbased sculptor known for his yarn sculptures, drawings, and prints. There will be around 50 works in the show and prices will range from £2,800 - £45,000.

The show is a full comprehensive survey of his graphic work, beginning with Sandback’s first print, a screenprint made in 1970, and continuing through to his last print, a lithograph done in 2000.

The first prints he ever made were simple in their execution, but as he became more enamoured and confident with the medium, they became extremely complicated and sophisticated. He engaged in several different techniques and his prints stretched from screenprints to linocuts, etchings, lithographs and aquatints. The show will also include two editioned string sculptures.

Fred Sandback was born in Bronxville, New York, in 1943. After receiving a B.A. in philosophy at Yale, he studied sculpture at the Yale University School of Art and Architecture. Sandback's first one-person exhibitions were at the Galerie Konrad Fischer, Düsseldorf, and the Galerie Heiner Friedrich, Munich, both in 1968. Since then he has exhibited widely both in the United States and abroad. His work was included in the Whitney Museum of American Art's Annual exhibition of 1968, the Biennale of Sydney, 1976, and the Biennial Exhibition of American Artists at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1979. In 1981 the Dia Art Foundation initiated and maintained a museum of his work, the Fred Sandback Museum in Winchendon, Massachusetts, which was open until 1996. Dia itself presented exhibitions of his works in 1988 and in 1996–97. Sandback died in 2003.
