Magda Danysz Gallery is pleased to welcome Gaël Davrinche in London from October 14th to November 7th. Graduated from the Beaux-Arts of Paris, Gaël Davrinche constantly renews the great masters’ painting techniques and dares to take over their models. His perfect technique makes him paint either really big portraits or renews the great masters’ painting techniques as Velasquez, Goya or Leonard de Vinci. From his expert brush’s movement is born a new series « Under the skin ».in which his painting becomes more expressive in order to decompose his usual portrait, balanced in the show by the delicacy of his Memento Mori.

Gael Davrinche questions the art of portrait. At the time of photography and numerical technologies he creates strong works transforming the ceremonial portrait in a really powerful psychologic image. Keen observer of the society, Gaël Davrinche depicts with accuracy and humor human beings. His spontaneous and precise touch allow him to paint his model in their global nature, focusing on the social importance of the image.

In his Memento Mori series, the artist subtly paints faded flowers on huge canvases. As a real metaphor of life, these fragile flowers symbolize renewal and change, Gaël Davrinche suggests an optimistic view of the world to come and offer a vision of a renaissance, he keeps this natural and strong touch. Real metaphors of life, these flowers are a kind of “carpe diem” for the artist.

From the great masters’s painting revisited sometimes in an impudent way, like what he did with la Joconde, to his hyper-realistic portraits, Gael Davrinche dare to try all the different artistic expression. He presents in London, side by side, still life or portraits, paintings, drawings or pastels and he impresses the public by his perfect technique.
