The second part of our Bert Stern “From the Archives” exhibition, which is titled “Part II: On Film”, opened at the gallery on June 26.
The exhibition will be installed in the gallery until August 28, 2015. It includes photographs and screenings of three films directed by Bert Stern - Jazz on a Summer’s Day, Twiggy in New York, and Twiggy in Hollywood.
Jazz on a Summer’s Day was shot at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island and in 1999 the Library of Congress selected this film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry because of its cultural and historical significance.
The other two films include Bert Stern's documentary footage of the iconic model Twiggy during her 1967 tour of New York and Hollywood.
The exhibition includes Bert’s beautiful studio portraits of the jazz icons that he filmed for the documentary, and a selection of his photographs of Twiggy taken for VOGUE.
Staley-Wise Gallery has represented the photographer since the gallery opened in 1982, and the gallery remains the exclusive representative of the Estate of Bert Stern since his death in 2013.
