Meeting the Odyssey is a social and artistic itinerant project of 4 years duration. It combines elements of the Homer's Odyssey with relevant contemporary elements to European Citizenship.
The ship's trip is the Odyssey itself. Each summer artists and organizations from different countries travel together in the ship, carrying out performances and instants wherever they step. The first stop has already happened over the Baltic Sea, starting from Saint Peterburg City, in Russia, making some stops in Helsinki and Hanko, in Finland; Tallinn, Hilumaa and Kuressaare in Estonia; Opole in Poland, Berlin in Germany, Prague in Czech Republic and Copenhagen in Denmark.
The spearhead is precisely the ship which is carrying the artists and theater directors who participate in the project. This year it must travel from its homeport in Tallinn, surround all the European West coast, and reach the Mediterranean Sea. In this trip, the ship is empty, and everybody who wish to join and travel on it have the opportunity to do so by €100 per day.
The stops in this trip are again Tallinn, in Estonia; together with the ports of the Hague, in the Netherlands; A Coruña, in Galicia; Lisbon, in Portugal; and Malaga and Valencia, in Spain, in order to wound up in the ports of Marsella, in France, and Genoa, in Italy. A tour that carries to the travellers to other time. A tour over Europe that will make the traveller remember of what this European collage is made of. That peninsula in the Euroasiatic continent.
But the Odyssey does not find an end there. The ship is precisely the symbol of all that. Throughout instants, pieces of micro performances carried out outdoors, and open to the whole audience. This year, the two big performances (Landing_an odyssey and Nausicaa Ion sono io) stop in Milan, Dervio, Olginate, Campsirago, Como and Camiogli, in Italy. In Malta it makes its stops in Birgu and Gozo, and then it goes to the Italian island of Sardinia. Later on, it will stop in the French region of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the municipalities of Sant-Cyprian, Gruissan, Sète and Le Graudu- Roi, and it will be coming back to Italy to end up the tour in Florence.
However, the Odyssey of this project does not find an end there. As a big representation of the current stage of the European construction, for the last tour, for the Greek tour of 2016, there is a finance hole for the logistic part. So, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched through a crowdfunding platform called Kisskissbankbank to reach the amount of €12.000 and defray the expenses in vans and ferries all over the Helenic peninsula.
This last part represents its own Odysseus' tragedy to come back home, in a trip where the cannival giants and the storms in the see turn, one more time, to the economic crisis that hits Europe from 2008. Specially in Greece, and the remain Southern countries. But in this campaign the backer will get a small souvenier of their bit, depending of the donated amount of money, that can range from one euro to higher figures. Depending on what amount of money the donator wants to finance, the backer will get at home an exclusively designed postcart signed by an artist. Its name coined in the flag of the ship, that would be travelling all over the Mediterranean Sea, a life jacket, or the chance to finance a micro spectacle in the French port municipality of Sète, or will have the chance to travel with the actresses and actors in the ship in France or in Sardinia, in Italy.
