Galerie Olivier Waltman is proud to announce Cuban-American artist Jorge Enrique’s fifth solo exhibition in France.
“In the past I had often referenced industrial materials as part of my visual vocabulary : Steel, aluminum, asphalt and concrete are the foundations of my visual environment. In an urban setting they become part of your everyday life’s experience, a new part of everyday “nature” for some of us.
I had been working on bringing traces of our surrounding environment into the painting for many years now, covering them with materials such as Epoxy, clear paints and resins and playing with lights and reflections.
I have recently started using metal directly into my work.
Aluminum is shiny, reflective and its surface invites the surrounding exterior into it. Its ability to invite images from the outside is a quality that interests me immensely.
Aluminum allows me to continue experimenting with these ideas with a major difference in that the reflective material is now in the back of the image as well as the surface.” - Jorge Enrique, March 2015
Jorge Enrique was born in Havana in 1960. He lives and works in Miami. He exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Florida and overseas. He is represented by galerie Olivier Waltman in Paris and Miami.
