Base Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Toshimitsu Baba, on view from March 13 through April 24, 2015.

The landscapes Baba paints somewhat make us feel familiar already seen sensation while they also bring a sort of uncertainty as if being in nirvana, the other side of life.

The landscape painted in monochrome tactfully clouds edges entirely and outspreads before us without any specific colors.

It is rather the scene that moderately makes an appearance in our dreams and differs vastly from the so-called landscape painting, namely the depiction of scenes of nature.

While passing between the drams and reality, the landscapes repeatedly emerging in his dreams may actually picture himself all the more and ask him what’s in the bottom of his heart.

Although he used to use aluminum panel as support medium, he has been using canvas and paper in recent years.

Furthermore, he has been making full use of paint brush along with air brush flexibly and working on various expressions.

No matter what medium he adopts, what he has been doing is nothing less than leaving something deposited at the bottom in himself to each landscape painting.

We cordially invite you to join us for his third solo exhibition at Base Gallery.
