The culmination of an incredible two-year photographic project, FlipSide brings some of the world’s biggest DJs and producers out from behind the decks and reveals them as you've never seen them before. Featuring subjects including Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim, Goldie, Paul Oakenfold, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Judge Jules, Example, Orbital, Shy FX, Jaguar Skills, Boy George, DJ Fresh and many more, this unique body of work is the brainchild of renowned photographer Jessica van der Weert. Debuting in London, the solo show will then travel to other areas of the globe including LA, Berlin and Ibiza.
In conjunction with art agents Beautiful Crime and Eddie Lock, Van der Weert unveils this celebration of the world of dance music at London’s Hoxton Gallery on February 27, 2015. While some works feature global music heavies in their other favourite places - Carl Cox doing burnouts in his Lotus, artist Goldie covered in paint in his studio - others feature superstar DJs re-enacting their fantasies, aided by Jessica’s imagination and creative eye, such as Boy George dressed in full combat gear amidst clouds of purple smoke, re-enacting a scene from Platoon. The results are a breath of fresh air. Revealing personalities and interests beyond anything the public has seen before, Jessica’s collection is genuinely unique.
FlipSide aims to raise awareness for the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) – an organisation that supports people with this debilitating hearing condition that affects almost 10% of UK adults and which affects many DJs.
