Holylands stays in the realm of being material. Like mesh or fabric the video installation at OUTPOST remains perforated into the world. The lax gaze of the video camera looks on, looks through, and looks towards. The look travels through action, passing by moments and across substances towards people as they survive and thrive together. Harahan’s work shows the time at which it was made, a document that holds itself open with it’s short starts and short stops, away from any beginning and away from any end.

Seamus Harahan was born in 1968. He grew up in London and East Tyrone. His practice is video, installation, film, and sound based. He was recipient of a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists in 2009. He represented Northern Ireland in the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005, with Holylands. He is an ex-director of Catalyst Arts Belfast. He is represented in London by Gimpel Fils. He lives and works in Belfast. Recent screenings include IMMA Summer Party, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; 52nd Ann Arbor Film Festival (Jury Award). Recent solo exhibitions include Cold Open / Before Sunrise, Kerlin Gallery, Dublin; Nought to Sixty, ICA, London.
